About the Site

Biological Psychology NewsLink is a companion site to the textbooks Behavioral Neuroscience, by S. Marc Breedlove and Neil V. Watson, and The Mind’s Machine, by Neil V. Watson and S. Marc Breedlove, both published by Sinauer Associates, an imprint of Oxford University Press.

The site provides quick access to links to the latest news and research in behavioral, cognitive, and clinical neuroscience, and cross-references links to chapters of both textbooks and to general topic keywords. Biological Psychology NewsLink gives you a quick way to stay abreast of the latest developments in these fields.

How To Use the Site

Biological Psychology NewsLink is designed to be extremely easy to use. All of the links are presented in a simple interface, and all the search functions are accessible at all times.

The main frame lists the current selection of links. When you arrive at the home page, you will see the listing of the most recently added links. To view an article, simply click its title. Anytime you perform a search or click one of the chapter links on the left, the results will be presented in the main frame.

Each link has the following information:

  • Title (Links to the full article)
  • Related chapters from BN (Textbook chapter references for Behavioral Neuroscience; click one to see a listing of other articles related to the chapter)
  • Related chapters from MM (Textbook chapter references for The Mind’s Machine; click one to see a listing of other articles related to the chapter)
  • Keyword (Keyword references; click one to see a listing of other articles related to the keyword)
  • Link ID (A unique identifier for each link)
  • Posted (The date the link was posted to the site)

At the top of the home page is the Featured Link. This is a link that is of particular importance or interest, and it is accompanied by an image from the source article. Following the Featured Link are the 20 Most Recent links, sorted by date. Click the “Next Page” link at the bottom of the page to see the next 20 most recent links.

By default, article summaries (often the first paragraph of the article) are shown below the article titles. These can be hidden by clicking the “Hide Summaries” button at the top of the page.

To select which textbook’s table of contents is listed on the left side of the page, click a cover image in the upper left. Click a chapter title to display all links related to the chapter, sorted by date.

At the top right of the page is the Search box, which allows you to search using two methods:

  1. You can enter any string of text to search on (multiple items can be separated by commas); both the titles and the summaries of the articles will be searched.
  2. You can quickly display all links related to a particular keyword by selecting the keyword from the Keyword pop-up menu.

The question mark icon in the upper-right corner of the main frame opens this About page.
